Two Ethos Exhibition is coming soon! The opening ceremony is on Thursday 17th at KCDF Gallery.

The Two Ethos is an international joint project that addresses

‘uniting two cultures of Korea and Italy’. Along with Korea National

University of Cultural Heritage (KNUCH) and Istituto Europeo

di Design (IED), Italian designers and artists have participated in

creating astonishing products. In this project, we have put Korean

traditional textiles at the center and tried to merge them with Italian

design, art and materials. As a result, brilliant works came out

blending the excellence of Korean traditional crafts and modern

designs of Italy. In this sense, this project presents possibilities of

using Korean traditional textiles in a modern way and suggests a

new fashion wave to the world through harmonizing two cultures.

This project has proceeded over two years. Countless people

put their passion in it. The first exhibition of Two Ethos 1.0

for the public was held at IED, Milan, during the Milan Design

Week of 2017, followed by the second exhibition at the Consulate

General of Korea in Milan. In this year of 2018, the Two Ethos 2.0

exhibition is held at the gallery of Korea Craft & Design Foundation

(KCDF). As it is the first exhibition in Korea, it has gathered all the

works the practitioners have been through. The student’s works of

KNUCH and IED have added to this project. Furthermore, thanks

to the professional Italian designers and artists participation, its

importance and completion have increased.

The new ideas and values which will lead the future can be emerged

by sharing different cultures and techniques in distant countries

and reflecting them. The Two Ethos will be remembered for a long

time as a historical project that opens the new horizon of cultural

exchange and educational achievement of both Korea and Italy.

‘Two Ethos(이하, 투 에토스)’는 한국과 이탈리아 ‘두 민족 문화의 만남’을

주제로 한국전통문화대학교와 유럽디자인대학교(이하 IED) 및 이탈리아

현직 디자이너 · 아티스트들이 참여한 국제 교류 협력 프로젝트입니다.

한국의 전통 직물을 중심 소재로 하여 이탈리아의 디자인과 예술, 재료와의

융합을 시도하였습니다. 그 결과 한국 전통 공예의 우수성과 이탈리아의

현대적이고 국제적인 디자인이 접목된 작품들이 탄생되었습니다. 두 문화의

만남을 통해서 새로운 패션 문화를 제안하고 한국전통직물의 현대적 활용에

대한 가능성을 선보이고자 합니다.

프로젝트는 지난 2년 간 진행되었으며 많은 분들의 열정이 담겼습니다.

2017년 투 에토스 1.0은 이탈리아 밀라노 디자인 위크 기간에 IED 밀라노

전시관에서 ‘투 에토스’ 첫 번째 전시가 개최되어 현지 일반인들에게 처음

공개되었으며, 후속으로 주 밀라노 대한민국 총영사관에서도 두 번째 전시가

진행되었습니다. 금년의 투 에토스 2.0은 한국공예디자인문화진흥원

(이하 KCDF) 갤러리에서 개최되며 한국에서 처음으로 선보이는

‘투 에토스’ 전시로 그간 진행된 프로젝트 결과물을 한 자리에 모았습니다.

한국전통문화대학교와 IED학생들의 작품이 추가 제작되었으며, 이탈리아

현지 프로 디자이너와 아티스트들이 참가하여 프로젝트의 상징성과 완성도를

높였습니다.

한국과 이탈리아와 같이 먼 거리에 있는 문화와 기술을 교감하고 반영하는

시도들을 통해 미래를 이끌어갈 참신한 사상과 가치가 깨어날 것이라 봅니다.

두 국가가 이룩해낸 교육의 성과이자 문화 교류의 새 지평을 열어간 역사적인

프로젝트로 오랫동안 기억될 수 있기를 바랍니다.
